Stats That Speak:
Creative workshops to enhance communication of health statistics
Status: Ongoing
Stats that Speak explores new ways to help patients, members of the public, statisticians, and creative professionals work together to understand complex statistical concepts used in clinical trials.
We have focused on different statistical concepts. One example is the concept of “treatment important differences” in clinical trials — a key measure used to decide whether a treatment benefit is meaningful.
Stats that Speak uses creative workshops to make technical ideas more accessible, inclusive, and easier to discuss. Through activities such as storytelling, games, music, and cartoons, participants shared perspectives, we build a common understanding, and co-created creative resources that could help explain these concepts to wider audiences in the future.
Our pilot research work showed that creative approaches can improve communication, support meaningful patient and public involvement in research, and help translate difficult statistical information into formats that are engaging, understandable, and relevant to everyday experiences.
